Professor Iain Gosbell is the Foundation Professor of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at the School of Medicine, University of Western Sydney, Australia. He described the emergence of community MRSA in southwestern Sydney, and subsequently developed research interests in the epidemiology of MRSA in the community and also in hospitals. Since commencing at UWS, he has established the Antibiotic Resistance and Mobile Elements Group at UWS, with Dr Jensen, Dr Espedido and A/Prof van Hal. ARMEG examines the genetics responsible for antibiotic resistance, especially vancomycin and daptomycin resistance in MRSA, plasmid biology of MRSA, and the contribution of bacterial biofilms to healthcare-associated infections.
